Dear Friends,
As you may already know, a steering committee comprised of your neighboring residents, merchants and building owners has been formed to bring the benefits currently shared by properties within the NOHO NY Business Improvement District’s (BID) boundaries to the rest of our community.
The formation of the steering committee reflects the interest of neighborhood stakeholders in preserving the economic and physical health of our entire neighborhood. Through the BID model, we can deliver comprehensive services that supplement, not replace, those provided by the city. To ensure long term, sustainable and equitable financing and management, the city collects assessments on behalf of the BID through each commercial landowner’s yearly property taxes. Some organizations collect donations from select community members to deliver basic maintenance services, but that approach unfairly burdens some while resulting in inconsistent service and management for everyone. Community members in the BID, on the other hand, receive dependable and equitable services year after year, especially necessary in these tough economic times.
The expansion of the NOHO NY BID will provide us with a proven mechanism by which we, as commercial property owners and tenants, will fairly participate in realizing the full potential of NOHO as a great place to work and live.
